Intravenous insulin tolerance test (IVITT) in control and HFD rats. a Glucose level was corrected for baseline glucose level and time indicates the time after glucose infusion. No differences in glucose levels were observed between control (n = 9) and HFD rats (n = 9). Ventricular tissues (b), gastrocnemius muscle (c) and soleus muscle (d) were isolated at t = 0 (baseline conditions), t = 5 and t = 30 min (n = 3 per time point) after the insulin injection. The ratio of pAkt to total Akt was measured in hearts of control rats (open bars) and HFD rats (filled bars). For both cardiac and skeletal muscle tissue, Akt phosphorylation was decreased in HFD rats at 5 an 30 min after insulin infusion. For the soleus muscle, Akt phosphorylation was only significantly decreased at 30 min after insulin infusion. For all isolated tissues, representative Western Blots are shown.
