Effects of insulin or phlorizin on the gene expression of cardiac K _ATP channels in STZ-treated rats with 8 weeks of diabetes. The upper panel is the autoradiograph resulting from Northern blotting of the cardiac SUR-2A (A), Kir6.2 (B) mRNA or β-actin in hearts isolated from these diabetic rats treated with insulin (0.5 IU) or phlorizin (1 mg/kg) three times daily for 4 days. The vehicle used to dissolve the test medications was given in the same volume. Similar results were obtained with an additional 5 replications. Quantification of mRNA levels using SUR-2A or Kir6.2/β-actin, expressed as mean with SE (n = 6 per group) in each column, is indicated in the lower panel. * P < 0.05, ** P < 0.01 and *** P < 0.001 vs. control.
