The interplay between SARS-CoV-2 infection, CVDs, and diabetes. SARS-CoV-2 can affect the cardiovascular system directly through invasion of cardiac tissue or, in a more pronounced manner, indirectly, through cytokine storm activation, oxygen supply imbalance, and RAAS dysregulation. DM and hypertension are the most frequent co-morbidities linked to the severity and poor prognosis of cardiovascular outcomes in COVID-19 patients due to imbalanced ACE/ACE2 and RAAS activation. ACE2: ACE2 indicates angiotensin-converting enzyme 2, Ang: angiotensin, CVDs: cardiovascular diseases, RAAS: renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system
