Data on cardiovascular events (i.e.: myocardial infarction, stroke, transient ischemic attack, angina pectoris, pulmonary embolism, intracerebral hemorrhage, peripheral artery disease) have been obtained from a subgroup of 314 patients. Subjects were considered current smokers if they smoked ≥ 5 cigarettes/day and/or 10 packs/year [26].The statistically significant associations are reported in bold.
