Experimental protocols. All rats except for the sham-operated ones were subjected to cardiac I/R protocol, i.e. 5-min occlusion of the left main coronary artery, followed by 20-min of reperfusion. Rats in Empagliflozin group received 10 mg/kg empagliflozin (dissolved in saline) by intragastric administration once a day for consecutive 7 days. Rats in the control and sham groups were given the same volume of saline. Pharmacological inhibitor (U0126) was administered via the femoral vein as a bolus 30 min prior to myocardial ischemia.
