Associations of increased maximum concentration of D-dimer released during clot lysis (D-Dmax), peak thrombin and cardiovascular risk factors with cardiovascular mortality. Cardiovascular risk factors included: age > 65 years, prior cardiovascular disease, C-reactive protein > 3 mg/l. The D-Dmax and peak thrombin were dichotomized using the cut-off value found in the receiver operating curves which optimally classified the cardiovascular death. A D-Dmax > 4.26 mg/l and peak thrombin > 283.5 nM were regarded as increased.
