Effects of SGLT2i on inflammation, oxidative stress marker and apoptosis in SA-treated MAC. Gene expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine/chemokines (a) and oxidative stress markers (b) was assessed in MAC pre-treated with empagliflozin (Empa) or dapagliflozin (Dapa) 100 µM for 16 h—or N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC 4 mM) for 1 h—followed by 6 h of stearate (SA) 100 µM incubation (IL interleukin, TNFa tumor necrosis factor-α, MCP monocyte chemoattractant protein, TXN thierodoxin, SOD superoxide dismutase, HO heme oxygenase). Caspase 3/7 activation was assessed in MAC pre-treated with empagliflozin or dapagliflozin for 16 h followed by 24 h of SA incubation (c). Data are expressed as mean ± SEM of at least 3 independent experiments (*p < 0.05, **p < 0.01 vs SA; ¥p < 0.05, §p < 0.01 vs control)
