From: Plasma irisin is elevated in type 2 diabetes and is associated with increased E-selectin levels

Fig. 2

Exposure to recombinant human irisin induces E-selectin and ICAM-1 gene expression in primary HUVECs. Real-time PCR analysis of irisin-treated HUVEC, displaying intracellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1), platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule (PECAM1), P-selectin and E-selectin mRNA expression levels. a Exposure to 20 ng/ml irisin for 4 h caused no changes in gene expression relative to control. b Exposure to 200 ng/ml irisin for 4 h induced a fourfold increase in E-selectin and 2.5-fold increase in ICAM-1 mRNA expression compared to control (p = 0.001 and p = 0.014 respectively). c Exposure to 20 ng/ml irisin for 24 h caused no significant alteration in expression of genes associated with endothelial dysfunction relative to control and neither did, d exposure to 200 ng/ml for 24 h. Values normalised to actin and YWHAZ expression (n = 4). **p<0.01, ***p<0.001 and ****p<0.0001
