Decreased expression of inflammatory markers following UPS inhibition with ischemia–reperfusion. Isolated rat hearts were perfused under high glucose conditions (33 mM) vs. controls (11 mM) and subjected to global ischemia and reperfusion ± 5 μM lactacystin or 10 μM MG-132 treatment for the first 20 min of the reperfusion period. Western blot analysis for: a TNF-α and b IkBα with lactacystin treatment; c TNF-α and d IkBα with MG-132 administration. We employed β-actin as loading control. Values are expressed as mean ± SEM (n ≥ 4). *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001 vs. respective controls.
