Schematic representation of insulin resistance and atherosclerosis mechanisms in Tibetan minipig. Conditions were induced by feeding with a high-fat/cholesterol diet in minipigs with chronic myocardial ischemia. PPARs, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors; NF-ĸB, nuclear factor ĸB; IL-1β, interleukin 1 beta; and TNF-α: tumor necrosis factor alpha; CRP, C-reactive protein. Arrows pointing up or down indicate statistically significant increases or decreases (P < 0.05). Lack of arrows indicates no alteration.
