Confocal images (40 ×-objective) were analyzed using a custom-written IDL analysis program based on signal-thresholding. Results are expressed as mean of the percentages of corresponding cross-sectional areas: **P < 0.01 vs. control: at least 40 sectional images/group were analyzed.
